Teachers are some of the busiest people in the world, no exaggeration, I know first hand. The disbelievers point to the fact that we have summers off. But the teachers I know are spending a lot of time this summer, cleaning and organizing their classroom, getting ready for common core, getting ready for common core, and did I say getting ready for common core. I have been busy and as I teach at a year round school, my summer goes by instantly. To force me to take a good break, I have instituted “Weekend Wednesdays.” The idea is that you can have a mini weekend, if you do a chore that you would normally do on Saturday, that way you can have more free time on Saturday. But as a reward for doing that chore, you can go do something fun after, like a movie, dinner, library, etc. So today, after I spend some time rearranging my classroom, I will organize and sweep out the garage. Then I will go to dinner and a movie with my daughter. I know when school is in session, you can be tired out, but just stick it out for another 1/2 hour to do a big chore, and off you go. Plus remember that you have one less chore on the weekend.
