Array Or Area Model Task Cards For Multiplication
$4.25
I noticed that my 4-5th grade students needed some more experience with multiplication arrays or area models. Also because I had a wide range of learners, I created this set of 32 array task cards for multiplication to start at a beginning level and then slowly working up to an advanced level so I could have different students start at different places. The cards introduce solving multiplication problems by building arrays with Base Ten Blocks, from one digit x one digit to two digits x two digits.
Perseverance Required 4.NBT.5
How can I use this product?
I have used task cards as a math center, journal prompts, whole class Scoot game, class discussions, or even assessments. But warning, the advanced task cards require some major perseverance so I wouldn’t recommend them for a Scoot game.

What is included?
1 pdf file with 19 pages
• 2 pages of cover/copyright info/notes and standards
• 1 page of a set of 4 blank task cards in case you want to add your own
• 8 pages with four array tasks on each page (landscape)
• 2 page answer key
• 3 pages of student answer sheets
• 2 pages of student tracking sheets
• 1 page of hundred blocks for use to copy/cut/laminate in case you don’t have base ten blocks
Example task:
Advanced level card – Using at least one hundred block, draw the array that would give you the product of 221?
Note:
Students should use Base Ten Blocks though it isn’t necessary. I do have a printable if needed. Also these require some major thinking, so make sure your students have time, and maybe can work together, even allow them to use a calculator.

What standards are addressed?
Common Core Standards
CCSS.Math.Content.3.MD.C.6 Measure areas by counting unit squares (square cm, square m, square in, square ft, and improvised units).
CCSS.Math.Content.3.MD.C.7 Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
CCSS.Math.Content.4.NBT.B.5 Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, multiplication, rectangular arrays arrays, and/or area models.
CCSS.Math.Content.4.MD.A.3 Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.B.5 Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm – multiplication.
